What We Are Up To This Week:

Upcoming Events:
Sept 7:  Open House
Sept 30:  Killian Fall Festival

What we are learning:

Alphabet/Writing:

We are studying the letters Aa-Ii.  For each letter we are learning the name of the letter, the sound of the letter, words that begin with the letter, and how to write the letter properly.  One of the big skills we are working on with our writing is holding the pencil the correct way.  Please practice these skills with your child each day.  We are beginning to see some improvement with their writing already.

Reading:

We will be learning about the proper way to treat books.  We visited the Media Center today for the first time and were able to check out books.  Once students are able to bring those books home please be sure your child keeps their library book in their bookbag when they are not reading it.  We go to the Media Center twice a week to check out books(Mondays and Thursdays).  Students will need to have their previous book to turn in in order to check out a new book.  We will also be learning about the different parts of the book and about authors and illustrators.

A great website for free stories online:  www.storylineonline.net

Math:

This week we will continue to work on counting by 1's without any mistakes and number recognition.  The kids are doing a really great job with the all the songs we have been learning to help us learn our numbers.

Science:

We are studying our five senses.  Each day we focus on a different sense.  Yesterday we talked about our sense of touch.  We used our sense of touch to figure out mystery items placed in a bag.  Each student was able to reach into the bag and only use their sense of touch to try and figure out what was in the bag.  This is a very easy game to play at home and the students really enjoyed it.

F.R.E.D.:

In the coming weeks we will begin our F.R.E.D. program.  The students will bring home a book in a ziplock bag along with a reading log.  Please read the book with them each night and fill in the reading log.

If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions for our blog please let me know or add your comments below.  We would love to hear from you.
